Leonard Medlock is a lifelong learner and social entrepreneur focused on addressing structural barriers faced by underrepresented students and communities. He is CEO and Co-Founder of Playback Worldwide, a technology firm focused on student-athletes and informal learning. Playback Worldwide aspires to co-opt traditionally exploitative industries and systems to work on behalf of the people.
Leonard has spent the better part of his career working with school districts and nonprofits on school model redesign, edtech product evaluation, leadership development, and advancing youth entrepreneurship. He has also spent nearly a decade coaching and advising social entrepreneurs and social enterprise startups involved in education, workforce development and criminal justice reform.
He was previously a Director at EdSurge, helping K-12 schools discover and select technology products. He also served as a design architect and mentor for the Expanded Success Initiative Design Fellowship, which launched four culturally relevant public high schools in the NYCDOE, using design thinking methods and habits.
He holds a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Duke University and M.Ed in Learning, Design and Technology from Stanford. Leonard lives with his partner and child in Oakland, CA.
